Finding a place to live in Park County has never been harder, between skyrocketing prices and limited availability.

Over the hill, it's gotten so bad people are taking to the streets to plead for housing opportunities.

In our community, the Park County Community Foundation and HRDC have taken a leading role in combating this challenge. The organizations are working on a Park County Affordable Housing Plan and a separate Livingston Affordable Housing Plan. PCEC is grateful for this work and proud to have three representatives on the committee (Johnathan Hettinger, Karrie Kahle and Jen Madgic).

We are delighted to host HRDC's Tracy Meneuz for a community conversation on this issue tomorrow at noon via Zoom. Please register today.

Menuez, associate director of HRDC, will help us sort through the complex issue of housing as it relates to Livingston and the region. She’ll help explain options communities have for tackling housing affordability and share what is being done locally.

Housing is a community-wide challenge with no simple solutions. People should be able to live in the communities where they work. The supply of housing should be diverse to suit various needs. Neighborhoods should contribute positively to the community as a whole.

Housing is also a conservation issue. Inefficient sprawl can destroy habitat, wetlands, our creeks and Yellowstone River. Automobile-dependent development can negatively impact air quality, stormwater runoff and quality of our soil.

That’s why conversations like these are so critically important. We hope you can join us tomorrow at noon for the discussion.
