On the Water: Reporting on the Upper Yellowstone River Recreational Use Study

In 2020, the Upper Yellowstone Watershed Group (UYWG) launched its “Upper Yellowstone River Recreational Use Study” to collect baseline data (who, what, where, to what extent) on recreational use of the river. Three distinct sets of data were compiled to help establish a recreational use baseline: camera captures of river use; occupancy counts of vehicles and trailers at river access sites, and surveys of river users and riparian landowners. These data were augmented with direct observations and ongoing discussions with rivers users, landowners, agency managers, and the public.

Guest presenter, Whitney Tilt, project leader for the UYWG, presents the report’s findings and the resulting set of recommendations in the video below.
