Park County Commissioner vote to move forward with new growth policy!

The Park County Commission voted to update the subdivision regulations and move forward with updating the Growth Policy.

These are important steps for the future. Subdivision regulations are key to helping ensure new developments are consistent with community desires, and the Growth Policy helps provide a plan and platform for us to find common ground and a common vision for the future.

Despite this action, it is still important that we vote to retain the current Growth Policy in June, by voting No on Referendum One. Without a Growth Policy, we would immediately become less competitive for grants and unable to update subdivision regulations beyond state minimums. You can learn more about the Referendum here.

We’re glad to see the commissioners recognize the importance of the foundational document, both for providing a vision for the future and for its importance in applying for future grant funding.

Commission Chairman Clint Tinsley said the county has 264 bridges, and at least half of them need work.

“The time is now for us to get moving,” Tinsley said.

Tinsley said during his time at the county, they have received $56 million in grants, many of which were made possible by the Growth Policy.

Once again, not a single member of the public spoke against updating the Growth Policy. Commissioner Mike Story voted against the update because he said we need to wait til after the June election, but the other commissioners said there is no reason to delay.

The Park County Planning Board will discuss next steps at their meeting tomorrow at 5 p.m. in the Community Room at the City-County Complex.
