Attention Dog Lovers and Producers: We've got some great events this weekend!

Don’t forget that we have some awesome community education events coming up this weekend: Profitable Ranching and Soil Life Seminar focused on Montana native forage & healthy soils on Saturday, October 15th, plus a presentation from Working Dogs for Conservation with a meet & greet with Mr. Tobias (the working dog) on Sunday, October 16th. Both events are free of charge with refreshments offered.

For Saturday’s event, contact Ford Smith at 406-223 7824

For Sunday’s event, please contact Bethany Allen at 406-333-1398 or register here!

We also want to give a BIG THANK YOU to all who helped and participated in our Weeds Education Field Day event in Shields Valley last month. It was great to see everyone and meet our new Park County Extension Ag Agent, Jackie Pondolfino, and our newish NRCS Soil Conservationist, Cody Garcia

If you missed it and still have questions on how to start planning your weed treatments for next spring, contact Jackie or Cody. If you have any questions on herbicide application or CWMA cost share grants, contact Theresa Pospichal.

Post Flood Vegetation Concerns
Cottonwood recruitment and weed infestations

We have a lot of post flood concerns still to come, and right now is an important time to think about protecting cottonwood recruitment and preventing new weed infestations. Due to the sensitive state our riparian plant communities are in, identifying and protecting new cottonwood and native vegetation establishment is equally as valuable as identifying and managing new weed infestations.

If you are planning to treat weeds in these delicate areas, be sure to not disturb the newly established native vegetation.

There is a lot to consider when it comes to plant community health and erosion prevention post flood. Be sure to consult an expert as you plan your bank stabilization and weed treatment methods. MSU extension and NRCS have some great resources on re-vegetation and flood prevention.

In community,

Bethany
