Livingston’s downtown is the heart and soul of our community. Whether it’s a fall evening art walk, sitting on Main Street during a Roundup Rodeo parade or feeling the warmth of our community at a music venue on a cold winter evening, downtown is a gathering place, providing vitality and bringing people together.
We believe prioritizing our downtown can help us meet some of our community goals like discouraging sprawl, supporting and strengthening local business, and encouraging infill and redevelopment

That’s why PCEC recently partnered with the Park County Community Foundation and City of Livingston to join the Montana Main Street Program, which will help the city with “economic development, urban revitalization, and historic preservation through long-range planning, organization, design and promotion.”
As an affiliate Montana Main Street member, Livingston is eligible for technical assistance, state resources and grant dollars. Already, we’ve received a $15,000 grant to help fund a new downtown plan. We’ve since been working with a variety of community members and groups on initial stages to kick off the process — including a collaboration with MSU’s Community Design Center.
This will help replace our downtown plan, the Urban Design Framework Master Plan prepared by Entranco, which is over 17 years old. Like our growth policy, a downtown plan can help articulate a community vision that helps inform the city’s priorities and goals as we face the future.
With all the growth and change, Livingston deserves a downtown plan that is innovative, up-to-date and effective in preserving our unique character and history while accommodating growth and change. And a downtown plan that reflects the varied perspectives of our residents and business owners which means we work together as a community to make it happen.
We’re excited for the opportunities that lay ahead. This is our time to work together on our last best place: Downtown Livingston.
