Flood Preparedness Guide

We are all enjoying soaking up the warm sun as we slowly ease out of what seemed like the longest winter in memory; however, these sunny days are going to kick off the beginning of runoff. The slightly above average level of our area's snowpack will provide plenty of water to fill our creeks and rivers.

If you haven’t already, now is a good time to start thinking about flood preparedness. We may not see any flooding this year, but since most of us are still shellshocked from last year’s flood, we felt that this would be a good time for a friendly reminder of the potential risk.

This spring, PCEC worked with the Park County Office of Emergency Management, Montana Freshwater Partners, and the Upper Yellowstone River Advisory Committee to develop a flood preparedness guide.

If you live in an area of flooding risk this guide can help you navigate many resources available to not only prepare for and lessen the impact from a flood, but also what to do during a flood event and afterwards. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, but this may help with your particular situation.
