What is a Downtown Master Plan?
A downtown master plan helps protect what we love about a place, guiding future development and spotlighting character, historic structures, culture, and the natural environment. It includes recommendations for land use, transportation, public spaces, economic development, design to enhance overall functionality, aesthetics, and community vitality. The plan serves as a roadmap for policymakers, developers, and community members to ensure protection, resiliency, and vibrancy as we grow and change.
The Downtown Master Plan for the City of Livingston replaces a plan that was drafted over 20 years ago. The new plan is intended to be our community’s vision for the future and a reflection of the goals, aspirations and dreams of Livingston’s current and future residents. It will help prioritize and allocate resources for future public improvements and investments in Downtown Livingston.

Comments on the draft plan are due Wednesday, August 7th, a week before the August 14 public hearing scheduled before the Consolidated Land Use Board.
At PCEC, we love Livingston's downtown, and we like how this draft plan focuses on leveraging successful efforts already underway, but also enhancing accessibility and social spaces to ensure our downtown remains a vibrant community hub for the future.
Many of the recommendations in the draft plan are in alignment with smart growth goals, and if implemented, could help prepare our downtown for a strong future – a future that prioritizes protecting and enhancing our natural environment, offering a mix of housing, public and commercial spaces, celebrating our unique history and culture, fostering a thriving local economy, and ensuring downtown Livingston is accessible and welcoming to all.
We are pleased with the effort that has gone into this multi-year project and are optimistic the final product will be something we can all be proud of.
