Opportunities to Give Back

We Can’t do the Work We Do Without You.

Even though we do our best to be a presence in our community, we can’t be everywhere at once, but we try. This is where you can help. If you’re interested in local government, or a civic engagement, school activities or the like, here are some opportunities that might interest you:

Boomerang Bags:

Do you like to sew? We need volunteers for our Boomerang Bags Program. Boomerang Bags is an initiative aimed at reducing the use of plastic shopping bags by engaging community members to upcycling, or recycle fiber from the community to make home-sewn reusable bags as a fun sustainable alternative. These bags are then provided to the community at local grocery stores and the library. Take a bag to carry your things home, and then simply return the next time for someone else to use.

Attend a Meeting:

Showing up can make a difference. Attending a city or county commission meeting provides a great opportunity to learn about our local government and a way to engage in local policy and decision making. Local planning board meetings are also open to the public. Your perspective and feedback can help us convey critical information back to our community.

Community School Collaborative (CSC) & Cougar Fridays:

Volunteer to help out at the Sleeping Giant Middle School. The mission of the CSC is to enrich students’ educational experience and social development by engaging the talents, skills and knowledge of community members. There are six Cougar Fridays per school year (no more than one per month) and PCEC staff make an effort to participate in at least half of them.

Write a Letter to the Editor, or Submit a Public Comment:

Do you have something to say? We can help give you the tools and guidance in writing effective letters and comments. It’s not always as easy as it appears, but we teach you some important skills and methods for effective communication concerning important issues.

Host a House Party:

Do you and a group of friends want to learn more about some of the local issues we’re working on? We’d be happy to gather for an afternoon, or evening of conversation to fill you in on what we do, or to lead a group in an informal training on effective engagement and communications, like letter writing or giving public comment at a meeting. Organize a Fundraiser:

We know it’s not easy to say, but we need to raise money to do the work we do. You can help us by hosting a fundraising event at you home or at a venue here in Park County, or by volunteering to help us with an open house, membership drive, or our annual member rendezvous. Help us raise awareness and some operating funds.

Please call us at 406.222.0723 if you are interested in any of our volunteer opportunities.
